Why PinkPantheress May Never Drop Electronic Music Again
info@hypebae.com (Hypebae) Wed, 30 Jul 2025 HypebaeWhen she's not on a chess side quest, she's going viral on TikTok and becoming a meme everywhere else. In a new interview, PinkPantheress opens up about her recent mixtape, Fancy That, which she released in May. Since its release, the project's first song, "Illegal," has become a TikTok trend leading fans to beg for more. But, according to the singer, fans may never hear another electronic project from her.
"This is the most effort I've put into pretty much anything I've ever done," she said of her recent project. "And I think there's more to come," she told The Hollywood Reporter hesitantly. "I definitely was surprised at the reception because I was totally going on a whim, doing the handshake thing. I didn't really expect anything to come from it, but I was really happy to see people were enjoying it. I thought it was really sick."
According to the London-based singer, "People are less willing to listen to electronic music that is made by a Black woman. That's just fact." Many have already criticized her for this take but... have we forgotten why Beyoncé is gearing up for Act III?
PinkPantheress adds, "There's some considerations I would like to get as an artist which I might not be getting right now, since maybe it's harder to put me into a genre."
