Chelsea Footballer Sandy Baltimore Talks Fashion, Football and London Life

Born and raised in France, Sandy Baltimore is part of a new generation of footballers redefining what it means to be a modern athlete. 

Baltimore joined Chelsea ahead of the 2024/25 campaign, moving from Paris Saint-Germain to sign a four-year contract with the Blues. The baller then saw an impressive trophy-filled first season, earning her a 15th-place ranking for that year's Women's Ballon d'Or. Standing at just 5'1, she's quick on her feet and balanced in her technique. 

Baltimore is best known for her pace and precision as a left winger for Chelsea FC Women and the France national team, but what's also captured our attention is the 24-year-old's off-duty style.

Off the pitch, Baltimore is carving out a name for herself in fashion circles, trading training kits for carefully curated fits. Take one look at her Instagram, and you'll see pink Air Force 1s, leather racing jackets and designer loafers from Prada to Duke+Dexter. She's also no stranger to streetwear, often seen sporting the perfect baggy track pants, with Stüssy a firm favorite.

We caught up with Baltimore to hear about her latest link-up with PUMA for the opening of its new flagship store in London, alongside her ultimate fashion pieces and pre-match attitude. Read on for the full interview.

Can you tell us a bit about how you got into football?

When I was younger, I used to play football just for fun. People around me noticed I had potential and encouraged me to join a club. I ended up playing with the boys until I was 15, which helped me develop my skills and passion for the game.

You're here with PUMA for its new store launch on Oxford Street. How does it feel being a part of this with all these other talented people??

It's something I'm really proud of. Being surrounded by talented and creative people is inspiring. You can feel that PUMA wants to celebrate athletes and culture. Being part of this project is really special for me.

Coming from France, what's one thing you love most about London?

I love the energy of the city. London never sleeps; there's always something to discover and new people to meet. And the football culture here is incredible.

You love a fit check. What are your current favorite pieces to wear?

Right now, I'm really into simple but stylish pieces: oversized sweatshirts, technical sets and of course sneakers. I like mixing comfort with a bit of streetwear.

What's one thing you would like people to know about you outside of your football career?

I'm a very quiet person and can be a bit reserved. Outside of football, I enjoy simple things like spending time with friends, going out and shopping. It's important for me to have moments where I can relax and enjoy life away from the pitch.

You've been playing since you were 10 years old. What advice would you give to young girls looking to pursue a career in sports or become athletes? What do you wish you knew when you were first starting out?

I would tell them to believe in themselves, even when others don't. The journey can be tough, but your passion has to guide you. I wish I had known how important patience is; talent isn't enough. Nothing happens overnight. You need to work hard, stay committed and stay true to yourself.

Do you have any secret comforts or rituals that you always do before a match?

I don't have any rituals. I'm a chill person, I go with my instinct, as if I were just going to play a five-a-side with my friends.

Finally, what do you have coming up in the next year? Any sneak peeks you can give us?

I want to keep improving, establish myself even more at my club and help my national team. There are important goals ahead, and I'm focused on becoming even more complete. I can't say too much, but there are some exciting projects coming!
