The Hair Designer Behind 'Stranger Things' Is Launching a Hair Care Line

After 10 years of executing '80s-inspired mullets and bowl cuts for Stranger Things, Sarah Hindsgaul has announced the launch of her very own hair care line: Hindsgaul Hair. Unlike the larger-than-life hair looks Hindsgaul executed on the cult-favorite Netflix show, the ethos for her upcoming brand emphasizes the exact opposite principle — effortlessly weightless hair.
While conceptualizing vintage hairstyles allowed the designer to further her knowledge of both texture and movement, she finds that her work on Stranger Things only further motivated her to modernize the hair industry. Subsequently, Hindsgaul Hair was born. Drawing inspiration from Hindsgaul's Nordic roots and her affinity for function over excess, the brand hopes to eliminate the hassle of our everyday routines in order to create the perfect foundation for styles you can live in.
Ahead, we speak to Sarah Hindsgaul about dreaming up Hindsgaul Hair and the brand's subtle nods to Stranger Things.
On the Inspiration Behind Hindsgaul Hair
The inspiration was the idea of creating a clean canvas — hair that feels healthy, flexible and free, so you can build whatever look or mood you want on top of it. I wanted products that support movement, not control it. Products you can't feel in your hair, that don't weigh it down, but keep it strong, soft and alive throughout the day, without ever becoming heavy.
On Who the Brand Is For
Hindsgaul Hair is for anyone who wants hair to feel easy. The products are designed to support movement, lightness and volume — making it easier to create looks that feel confident, relaxed, and cool.
On How Her Work With Stranger Things Played a Role
Working on Stranger Things for the past ten years has meant caring for the same actors' hair and scalp over a long period of time, so hair health has always been a priority for me, both on screen and off. Long 16-hour shoot days taught me how hair behaves in real life: it gets done in the morning and has to last until the end of the day. I wanted to translate what I learned on set to everyday, real-life haircare. Above all, working in film reinforced what I believe deeply — that hair is most beautiful in motion. Hair should feel free.

On the Brand's References to Stranger Things
To create great '80s hair, you need movement, air, and healthy length. Working on Stranger Things gave me a deep appreciation for texture and for hair that feels alive, but [with Hindsgaul Hair] I wasn't interested in recreating a specific era. I wanted to take the philosophy behind it — movement, flexibility, freedom — and make it modern.
Visually, the brand leans much more Scandinavian. I'm from Copenhagen, and I wanted the design to feel simple, clean and warm. The yellow felt hopeful and positive — creamy and soft rather than loud. There's a subtle nod to Stranger Things with the typewriter font used in film scripts, which felt personal since my husband is one of the writers on the show.
On Why Fans of the Show Should Try the Brand
If you love volume, texture and hair that can truly move — without feeling product in it — then Hindsgaul Hair is for you. The goal is hair that feels effortless, the same way it does on-screen.
