K-pop label ADOR has dropped NewJeans member Danielle Marsh and is now suing the singer for millions in damages following an ongoing dispute between the girl group and the record label. For the past year, NewJeans members have spoken out about mistreatment from ADOR and have actively tried to leave their contracts, but a court ruling a few months ago made that impossible. All five members were ordered to honor their contract, which lasts until 2029. However, with the label suddenly dropping Danielle and quickly taking legal action, this bust-up isn't one that will slip under the rug.
The termination of Danielle's contract has brought the dispute between Ador and NewJeans to the forefront of the music industry. In addition to suing the singer, ADOR is also seeking compensation from a undisclosed member of her family, as well as the group's former producer Min Hee-jin for a total amount equalling $30m USD. As of right now, three of the four remaining members have decided to see out their cotracts, but Minji is still discussing terms with ADOR.
Since their debut in 2022, NewJeans has become one of parent company Hybe's most popular acts, quickly becoming one of the biggest names in K-pop. With a devoted fanbase and millions of listeners, it is safe to say the termination of Danielle's contract did not go down well. Mistreatment from ADOR, including calculated miscommunications and manipulation, have been made known to the public for a while now, and fans have since flooded the internet with support for Danielle and the rest of the girl group.
In other news, Beyoncé just became the fifth musician to reach billionaire status.
