Doechii just released a new single featuring SZA, titled "girl, get up," chronicling the last few years of her career, from "industry plant" rumors to Grammy Awards. Written in collaboration with SZA and produced by Jay Versace, the Florida artist brings her usual unapologetic attitude to the track, getting unspoken feelings off her chest in the stripped-back song.
The single features a sample of Baby and Clipse's “What Happened To That Boy,” slowing it down with a captivating beat that gives Doechii the perfect platform to ruminate. She didn't hold back on this one, addressing all her doubters and naysayers, as well as the misogynoir she's faced since the success of her recent mixtape Alligator Bites Never Heal. SZA's smooth vocals split up the pointed bars, as the duo join forces for the first time since dropping "Persuasive" in 2022.
The visuals match the music perfectly — pared back and intimate, as if to put all the focus on the lyrics. For the cover art, Doechii hints to a major change, with cut off braids and wooden beads artfully scattered across a deep blue carpet. The braids defined her Alligator Bites Never Heal release and performances, culminating in her first-ever Grammy Award for Best Rap Album, but that's all in the past now. With a rebrand and more new music on the horizon, "girl, get up" is the perfect way to kick off this new era.
In other news, KATSEYE was named Global Artist of the Year by TikTok.
