Unboxing: PUMA’s H-Street Marks Its Latest Low-Profile Archival Reissue
info@hypebae.com (Hypebae) Wed, 21 May 2025 HypebaeContinuing its string of archival silhouette revivals, PUMA adds to its extensive low-profile sneaker roster by announcing the reissue of the 2000s icon H-Street.
Born from the 1998-released Harambee running spike — the name derived from the Swahili word “synergy” and “all pull together” – revered for its lightweight construction and bold design, the shoe became a mainstay for middle-distance runners for over a decade.
Having garnered a loyal sports fanbase, PUMA soon looked to create a lifestyle alternative, which saw the debut of the H-Street in 2003. The adaptation of the athlete shoe kept much of its signature design features, such as its lightweight build and low-profile look, however, it was updated with multi-surface capabilities to tackle life off the track. The silhouette’s upper received a large cell mesh for ventilation, the midsole was boosted with an added stacked EVA for comfort, while the Harambee PEBAX spike plate was replaced by a rubber mini stud sole — maintaining the original athletic visual sensibilities now designed for everyday wear.
Throughout the early 2000s, PUMA drew its focus on the H-Street, launching a series of iconic iterations of the sneaker. From the 2002 Jamaican flag-inspired colorway celebrating the brand’s partnership with the national team, to a limited-edition full-leather version made exclusively for retailers who held PUMA’s “The Black Label” account — it soon transitioned into the must-have lifestyle shoe.
Fast forward to 2025, and with iconic relaunches like the Mostro and Speedcat under its belt, the brand has been leading the movement of low-profile sneakers dominating the fashion world over the past year. As it continues to build on that momentum, delving into its rich archive to reimagine silhouettes that had once taken the millennium by storm for a contemporary consumer, the H-Street’s bold colorway and versatile design is gearing up to be the summer favorite in your footwear rotation.
For this exclusive Unboxing commemorating the relaunch, Hypebae taps Angel My Linh to create a unique set of H-Street-inspired nails incorporating the sneaker’s inaugural drop: the OG “Fizzy Green” colorway from the 2000s.
