Mia Khalifa "Terminated" By Playboy After Israel-Palestine Comments
info@hypebae.com (Hypebae) Tue, 10 Oct 2023 HypebaeLebanese-American and former adult entertainer Mia Khalifa dropped from Playboy after sharing support for Palestine.
Khalifa has never shied away from speaking her truth, as fans have witnessed in her interviews ranging from sex positivity to dating advice. However, as a Palestinian, her sentiments following the conflict in Israel have caused concern, specifically from her employer, Playboy.
On October 7, Hamas, a Palestinian military group, launched a large attack on Israel, killing hundreds of people. The attack follows years of contention, as Israel has occupied Palestine since 1967. Israel then responded with an attack of its own and later announced that it will be cutting off necessary resources such as water and power to Palestine.
When news broke of the initial attack, Khalifa tweeted: "I just wanna make sure there’s 4K footage of my people breaking down the walls of the open air prison they’ve been forced out of their homes and into so we have good options for the history books that write about how they freed themselves from apartheid." In another post, Khalifa "urged freedom fighters in Palestine to 'flip their phones and film horizontal,'" expressing her continued support.
Social media users were not amused as they perceived Khalifa as inciting violence, to which she responded: "I just want to make it clear that this statement in no way shape or form is enticing [the] spread of violence, I specifically said freedom fighters because that’s what the Palestinian citizens are… fighting for freedom every day."
Playboy swiftly responded, denouncing Khalifa's comments as "disgusting" and "reprehensible." In an open letter, the company wrote:
"We are writing today to let you know of our decision to terminate Playboy's relationship with Mia Khalifa, including deleting Mia's Playboy channel on our creator platform. Over the past few days, Mia has made disgusting and reprehensible comments celebrating Hamas' attacks on Israel and the murder of innocent men, women and children. At Playboy, we encourage free expression and constructive political debate, but we have zero tolerance policy for hate speech. We expect Mia to understand that her words and actions have consequences. We included the letter we shared with Mia below.
Thank you,
The Playboy Team
