But if you speak with the drivers dominating the sport, they'll tell you that the press is great, but there's still a long road ahead. From calling out gender inequity to beauty routines that bring hyperfemininity to the track, women drivers are rewriting the rules of the sport.
As driver Amna Al Qubaisi shared with us, the inequity within the sport can be career-threatening. For example, how are women expected to race when the cars they drive are built for men? Still, these women refuse to let the odds and outdated systems stop them. The result? Iconic stories like that of Samantha Tan. One of the best female drivers on the circuit, she fights back by bringing her hyper-feminine edge to the circuit, never racing without her winged eyeliner and acrylic nails.
