On TikTok, beauty nostalgia is rampant. Just recently, users on the platform have become especially obsessed with "Ballerina Shoes," a frosty pink shade of L'Oreal lipstick. After the coveted lip product began flying off shelves, the skepticism began to set in. While some swear by the lip color, others say it's another example of a fleeting microtrend that's bound to be forgotten.

In the late '90s and early 2000s, frosted lipstick was a popular choice among everyone from Kate Moss to Paris Hilton. Known for its pearlescent, light-reflecting qualities, the Y2K staple became synonymous with beauty tastemakers. Often worn in shades of cool-toned baby pink or more experimental hues of rich gold and icy lavender, frosty lips were once far less controversial than they are now.
