BBC's held its annual Sports Personality of the Year Awards ceremony, and the official list of nominees is full of the biggest names in women's sports. From World Sport Star of the Year to Team of the Year, the world's finest female athletes had one of their biggest years yet in 2025, and the BBC knows it. Ready to collect their flowers, Olympians, European champions and emerging stars were all on this year's shortlists.

Of the three nominees for the Young Sports Personality of the Year Award, not one, but two talented young women made the shortlist. England's Michelle Agyemang, walked away with the award on the night after a breakout season last year, culminating in a European trophy this past summer. Scoring crucial goals for the Lionesses on their road to a second consecutive European Championship, no youngster is more deserving of the award. No youngster apart from Davina Perrin, that is. The promising young cricketer is one of the most exciting talents in the sport, already breaking records at only 19. Paving a path for herself in a male-dominated sport, Perrin is an inspiration to young girls everywhere.

Though they didn't win, World Sport Star of the Year nominees Mariona Caldentey and Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone were strong contenders for the award. At only 26, track star McLaughlin-Levrone is an Olympic gold medalist, a world record holder and widely regarded as the greatest female hurdler of all time. Caldentey has been a somewhat underrated player for most of her career, but she stepped into the limelight in 2025, winning the Champions League with Arsenal and leading Spain to their first-ever European Cup final.

For the second year in a row, the awards ceremony was hosted by an all-female crew made up of Clare Balding, Gabby Logan and Alex Scott.

In other news, Savy King is providing CPR training for the entire NWSL.
