On June 30, the Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA) announced its latest growth move — and it's major. According to the organization, it has just added 3 new teams to its lineup.

"The demand for women's basketball has never been higher, and we are thrilled to welcome Cleveland, Detroit, and Philadelphia to the WNBA family," WNBA Commissioner Cathy Engelbert shared. "This historic expansion is a powerful reflection of our league’s extraordinary momentum, the depth of talent across the game and the surging demand for investment in women’s professional basketball."

Most importantly, the city of Cleveland will acquire a new team, the Cleveland Cavaliers, after the Cleveland Rockers ceased operations in 2003. The return to Cleveland only confirms the growing interest in women's sports.

And that demand is being reflected everywhere. Angel Reese just earned the title of "Triple Double Barbie," tunnel fits are going hard and ticket prices are becoming harder to grab. WNBA commissioner Engelbert continued, "We are excited for what these cities will bring to the league – and are confident that these new teams will reshape the landscape of women’s basketball."
