Chicago-based artist Marisa Adesman prepares to debut her next solo art exhibition.

When you think of feminism, you most likely don't assume that painting faceless women falls under that category. For Adesman, that level of absurdity is the point. According to the exclusive press release, her bold artistic signature is intentional—and a decision that most women can identify with. More specifically, this stylistic choice is "an absurdist commentary on how women fit into the domestic sphere."

On view starting June 27 at the Anat Egbi gallery in New York, this new series was a true labor of love for womanhood, with each work on display taking about 300 to 700 hours to complete. The result? An emotive and raw examination of female domesticity and its connection to Victorian stage magic. As the Chicago-based artist adds, "By elevating the domestic, these paintings bring significance to spaces and objects typically relegated to the background, along with the women caring for them."
