There's Nothing Subtle About adidas's Newest Sneaker
info@hypebae.com (Hypebae) Wed, 30 Jul 2025 Hypebaeadidas Originals' new footwear drop, the adiZero Goukana, is as striking as they come. With its bold yellow upper and chunky sole, the new style makes a statement from every angle, and is built on a legacy of performance and design.
Drawing direct inspiration from the 2008 Adios Neftenga, a groundbreaking performance running shoe in its own right, the Goukana also picks up where the limited-edition Wales Bonner collaboration of 2024 left off. The result is a natural progression in the distinguished track record of the adiZero line.
Crafted from premium suede and finished with meticulous detailing, the Goukana lives up to its name; "Goukana" means "luxurious and plush" in Japanese. It's also a nod to the adiZero's Japanese heritage and honors original designer Mr. Toshiaki Omori.
The vibrant colorway pays homage to the OG Neftanga, while also channelling the high-octane energy of car racing culture (enhanced by reflective silver synthetics) and the eclectic spirit of L.A. The Los Angeles influence extends beyond design though, the city itself and local creative platforms like Motoring While Black, founded by Rashod Bacon as a space for motoring enthusiasts of color, and Fabrica de Rosas, a community hub for Black and brown cyclists created by Jaime Rosas, bring the design to life.
Designed to pair effortlessly with the baggier silhouettes trending today, the adiZero Goukana delivers on both style and comfort. Though not technically designed as a running shoe, the Goukana incorporates Lightstrike cushioning, which can be found in adidas' championship-winning marathon and elite basketball court shoes worn by professionals. It's already caught the eye of athletes like NBA star Jalen Green and the NFL cornerback Travis Hunter.
The adiZero Goukana will be available on the adidas website and flagship stores from August 1st.
