Brand ambassador and undeniable it-boy Jacob Elordi returns to Bottega Veneta for its latest campaign, a short film and photo series lensed by Duane Michals. Titled "What are Dreams," the new release takes place at Michals' own home in New York, resulting in a series of black and white portraits that lean into the "unconscious, imaginary and uncanny."
Taking inspiration from the Surrealism movement, the 12 visuals capture Elordi in "mysterious" situations with poetic props and motifs that hark back to Michals' influences, namely the likes of Giorgio de Chirico and Réné Magritte.
Elsewhere, the film sees Elordi reading Michals' "What are Dreams" poem, an extract from his 2001 photo book, Questions without Answers.
"I'm very much interested in the realm of the invisible," confirms Michals in a press release. "My problem is how do I make the invisible visible? Of course, movie-making is also a dream, and Frankenstein is a scary dream. Jacob understood exactly what I was trying to do with the project. He was right there for the magic and the mystery of it," he adds.
This coming together of collaborators also aims to reflect the house's past and present, with Michals shooting one of the brand's campaigns back in 1985, and this time working with Elordi, who was named a brand ambassador last year.
