The TikTok Drama With Sombr and a Fan, Explained

If you've been online at all this last week, you've probably seen mentions of a drama between a fan and the TikTok star-turned-musician, Sombr, flooding your feeds and wondering what that's all about. Allow us to elaborate.

Shane Boose is a 20-year-old singer who performs under the stage name Sombr. His music went viral earlier this year, with the single "Undressed" earning him a huge fan base. One of those fans is Megan Tomasic, 25, who took to TikTok after attending one of his concerts in Washington to leave a scathing review of the show. The concert-goer shared that she left early because the concert was so "embarrassing to witness."

While initially being excited to attend, Tomasic said that it was "by far, genuinely, the worst concert I've been to in my life, for a multitude of reasons." She went on to detail that the crowd was extremely young, and Sombr was well aware of this, making plenty of niche, meme-related jokes. "It was like brain rot on stage," she added. To further challenge the experience, Tomasic also had issues with the number of adult-related, inappropriate jokes made while the artist was seemingly aware of the young age of his audience, describing it as "super vulgar." At one point, the artist did a bit called the "Sombr dating show," where tween participants from the crowd were encouraged to call their "toxic ex" while on stage, which Tomasic called "cringe."

Days after the video went viral, Sombr seemingly responded in his own TikTok video. "I am a 20-year-old artist – freshly 20 – and if you're 25 years old, and you're gonna come to my concert and not expect people younger than you to be there when I, the artist, am five years younger than you, it's just a skill issue," he said. Sombr went on to add that anyone attending his shows should know about his online presence, adding, "Like, live a little, enjoy life." The artist also accused Tomasic of body shaming him, seemingly for a comment where she referred to him as Slenderman. The singer ended the video with, "You guys need to find problematic people to hate on because I am just existing."

In the latest update, Tomasic has since responded, saying he is "addressing none of the points I actually said" and that she has received "death threats" as a result of the controversy. Neither has responded since, but in the meantime, Sombr is preparing for his SNL debut next month, so brush up on the drama before then.

In other news, Rina Sawayama called out Sabrina Carpenter's SNL performance. Read about why here.
