Everything We Know About Charli XCX's New Film, 'The Moment'

info@hypebae.com (Hypebae)  Mon, 13 Oct 2025  Hypebae

Charli XCX once again sent the internet into a meltdown with a surprise announcement of her upcoming film, The Moment. The singer dropped the news in an Instagram post with the caption "based on an original idea by charli xcx. The moment. coming 2026," alongside a flashy teaser sharing the cast announcement, which is also very impressive.

According to the official synopsis, "A rising pop star navigates the complexities of fame and industry pressure while preparing for her arena tour debut." Very meta. The Grammy-nominated musician will produce and star in the A24 film, marking the first movie under her new production company, Studio365. Based on Charli's own original idea, we're hoping for some cheeky insights into life behind the scenes.

Directed by Aiden Zamiri, a Glaswegian photographer and filmmaker, the project marks his feature film directorial debut. Zamiri and Charli have already collaborated on the singer's "360" and "Guess" music videos, so maybe we can expect some familiar creative choices here? Zamiri also helped co-write the screenplay alongside Bertie Brandes, who has previously written for publications including i-D and Dazed.

As for the soundtrack (like we needed any convincing here,) the artist has also recruited her long-time producer to compose the film's score. A.G. Cook was a key part of the creation of the Brat album and has also worked with other music powerhouses, including Beyoncé. A new film and new music? Yes please.

The teaser video shared no footage of the film, but did give us a peek at the current cast list, which includes: Alexander Skarsgård, Rachel Sennott, Kate Berlant, Rish Shah, Isaac Cole Powell, Rosanna Arquette, Jamie Demetriou, Arielle Dombasle, Hailey Benton Gates, Mel Ottenberg, Tish Weinstock, and Shygirl. If that didn't already pique your interest, Kylie Jenner will also be making her official acting debut for the project.

While the film initially had fans praising the artist's ambition and creativity, the cast announcement faced backlash for some of the choices apparently not reflecting Charli's underground or outsider ethos. Jenner's involvement was questioned as potential sell-out behavior and "off-brand." Other fans have come forward to defend the singer, though, with suggestions that the casting choice could be an intentional commentary on fame itself. We'll have to wait and see.

Exact details on a release date are still coming, but The Moment is expected to drop in 2026.

In other news, here is the Charli XCX and Taylor Swift drama, explained.
