Miley Cyrus Reveals the Real Reason She Stopped Touring

During a 2023 interview, Miley Cyrus revealed she doesn't want to tour, which left many fans sad and disappointed. In an interview with Zane Lowe, the "Flowers" singer shares the real reason for the first time ever.

"For clarity, I feel connected to my fans NOW more than ever. When I win, we win," she said at the time. "Even if I don't see them face to face every night at a concert, my fans are felt deeply in my heart. This has nothing to do with a lack of appreciation for the fans and everything to do with I simply don't want to get ready in a locker room, which is the reality of life on the road."

In conversation with Lowe, she revealed her hesitance to tour is due to a medical condition. "I had the Reinke's edema... It's abuse of the vocal cords," she told Lowe. "And you know, being 21 years old and staying up drinking and smoking and partying after every show does not help." She clarified, "But also in my case, it does not cause it."

Unfortunately, the pop star was presented with a solution that can have grave consequences. "I have this very large polyp on my vocal cord which is giving me a lot of the tone and the texture that has made me who I am, but it's extremely difficult to perform with because it's like running a marathon with ankle weights on." She continued, "the chance of waking up from a surgery and not sounding like myself is a probability."

Ultimately, the voice fans know and love is due to her condition. "It creates that, like, ultimate vocal fry, and so I do have this blessing of a condition that I live with," she said. "My voice is super unique because of it."
