Hypebae: Tell us a bit about your new partnership with Crocs and how it came about.
FLO: To be fair, I think Crocs was on our list for a while in terms of like, what shoe brands are out there that we'd love to work with. So when it came about, we were like, 'Oh, of course. We've kind of gotten there,' which is nice because Crocs is worldwide. I'm pretty sure everybody has a pair of Crocs. It felt like a no-brainer because we actually wear them, and it felt good to work with them, and the fact that they wanted to work with us. They've worked with really cool people like the SZA campaign and Justin Bieber, so it felt good.
And what was the timeline like for this campaign? When did you actually start having these conversations?
Probably like four months ago, there's a super lengthy approval process when it comes to picking the pictures and the campaign imagery, so that took a while as well, but everybody's been very patient with us, making sure that we get it right, because we want to make sure that it's FLO and Crocs. We're very particular about the campaigns we do and the people that we work with, and making sure that what we're doing looks really good, because we want it to be as influential as possible. We really put a lot of effort into this one.
When you think about the Crocs silhouettes you love the most, what comes to mind? What are your go-tos?
I've always been more of a classic Croc girl. I purchased this pair of Crocs in LA that have marijuana leaves all over them. They're black with green, and just somehow they go with every outfit. I don't know how they do it, but they really just work with every look. And I love the Jibbitz. We love the platforms too, and how you can put them into sport mode. That's what makes them really great for rehearsals.
The platforms are definitely my go-to! How would you describe your style as a group?
This is a question we're trying to figure out. Our style as a group is fun. We try not to take it too seriously. We're quite unserious people. But we love to look feminine, but edgy. We like to have swag and be comfy. If we're performing, we have to be able to move. So getting the balance of looking great, feeling good, but also feeling comfortable is it's definitely a tricky one to strike, but we're getting there. We definitely borrow each other's clothes, too, and put our own little spins on them. No matter what the vibe is though, we're always gonna look good.
I believe that! And in general, how important is a good shoe when creating an outfit?
Very important. It can really take an outfit from simple to simple and elevated, and make sure you're not doing too much. It can completely dress something up; you could put on a tracksuit and heels, and suddenly you're ready for an event.
Love that combo. Finally, thinking about the future of FLO and Crocs... What does that look like? What are you most excited about doing?
It would definitely be nice to make a Croc shoe. There have been lows, there have been boots, and there have been Croc heels. Right now, we're working on our brand and our music and what that looks like, but I definitely see a Crocs x FLO shoe in the future. We need a limited-edition bunny Jibbitz. We need a Jibbit! Maybe with one of our silhouettes from the album. Plus, a Crocs heel for tour would be very comfortable...
