Opening Ceremony Release FW22 Collection
info@hypebae.com (HYPEBAE) Mon, 25 Jul 2022 HYPEBAEOpening Ceremony has just unveiled its Fall/Winter 2022 collection, nodding to our collective love for food. Inspired by co-creative director Humberto Leon’s Chinese-Peruvian restaurant, Chifa, the melange of garments are centered around the dining experience.
Emblazoned phrases like GLUTEN FREE, NO MILK and CARB FREE take a cheeky poke at the dietary restrictions and requests that came up during the restaurant’s first six months. Leon shares in an exclusive press release, “This collection really pushes the creative boundaries of fabrication—how we perceive a material and how to apply it to a style, what bodies and silhouettes can we create with that material. We used jersey in 90% of the collection but in unexpected ways. What appears to be cable knit sweaters or mohair knits are cut-and-sewn and treated jersey pieces. Polar knit fleece is a new medium to construct a tailored suit.”
The collection also presents a playful relationship with textures and textiles as it explores the depth of jersey fabric. Grounded in a vibrant color palette of “poinsettia”, “island green” and “bonnie blue” pops against more subdued neutrals in the form of “buckthorn brown” and black. Preppy argyle sweater sets stand out alongside quilted skirts and fuzzy blazers.
As for accessories, the brand’s Razor Clam bag appears in an uber-saturated green and pink, joining updated jersey and teddy options. A range of tote bags offer a solution for those with a lot to carry, arriving in a quilted fabric or a milk carton silhouette. This season also sees Opening Ceremony’s latest collaboration with iconic American brand Dickies.
